New Web App Brings Michelangelo’s Genius to Life

The Galleria dell’Accademia di Firenze has launched a new web app entirely dedicated to Michelangelo Buonarroti, created as part of the major celebratory program L’eterno contemporaneo. Michelangelo 1475–2025, marking the 550th anniversary of the artist’s birth.

Starting September 30, 2025, visitors to the museum can enjoy an immersive, narrative-based digital experience designed to deepen the understanding of Michelangelo’s works. The web app requires no download: by scanning the QR codes placed next to the masterpieces, users can instantly access exclusive multimedia content — including texts, audio, and video — that explore the stories, techniques, and historical contexts behind each work, as well as their connections to other Renaissance artists and to Michelangelo’s creations across Florence.

The experience goes beyond the museum walls. Through a system of geolocated itineraries, the app guides users to other Florentine landmarks closely tied to Michelangelo’s life and art, such as the Medici Chapels, the National Museum of the Bargello, Palazzo Vecchio, and the Basilica of Santa Croce.

With this innovative project, the Galleria dell’Accademia once again underscores its commitment to accessibility and innovation, offering visitors an engaging and participatory way to experience Michelangelo — not only as a timeless icon of Renaissance art, but as a living voice that continues to inspire contemporary audiences.
