Vivaldi’s Four Seasons Opens the New Season at Niccolini Theater

The Teatro Niccolini, Florence’s oldest theater and one of Europe’s first “modern” stages, will reopen its cultural season with one of the most beloved works of the Baroque repertoire. On September 26, 2025, Opera e Lirica will present Antonio Vivaldi’s The Four Seasons, performed by violinist and conductor Elvin Dhimitri together with a string quintet and harpsichord.

The concert, scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m. and conclude at 9:20 p.m., will be the theater’s first major musical event after the summer break. It marks the start of a new season of performances at the Niccolini, which since its restoration and reopening in 2016 has once again become a vibrant hub for drama, concerts, and cultural encounters in the city center.

Vivaldi’s Four Seasons is more than a sequence of concertos: it is a vivid musical journey through the cycle of the year, from the birdsong of spring to summer storms, from autumn harvest celebrations to the icy winds of winter. The composer’s use of rhythm, contrast, and melodic invention made the work a revolutionary achievement in the early 18th century, and it remains one of the most recognizable masterpieces of Italian Baroque music.

Dhimitri, known for his expressive interpretations on both national and international stages, will lead the ensemble in a program that also includes concertos such as La Rustica and works in A major and D minor. The evening promises to immerse the audience in the theatrical power of Baroque music, enhanced by the intimate and historic setting of the Niccolini.

Tickets for the concert are available online through Opera e Lirica, with prices starting at €20.
