Fire Erupts in Industrial Area, Thick Smoke Visible Across Florence

A large fire broke out on Wednesday afternoon, July 23, in the industrial area of Osmannoro, within the municipality of Sesto Fiorentino, sending a thick plume of black smoke into the sky and triggering alarm across the area. The smoke column was visible from several kilometers away, including from central Florence.

The blaze erupted in a parking area on via Tevere, where three semi-trailers parked in the lot caught fire and were completely engulfed in flames. Witnesses reported hearing loud explosions, likely caused by the bursting of the trucks’ tires. The sounds were clearly heard throughout the surrounding neighborhoods.

Firefighters from the Florence command, particularly the Firenze Ovest unit, were quickly dispatched to the scene. Two teams and two water tankers worked to contain the flames and secure the site. As of now, no injuries have been reported, but firefighting operations were still ongoing into the evening.

Images and videos of the fire quickly spread across social media, showing the towering column of dark smoke rising from the Osmannoro area. Traffic disruptions were reported near the scene, as emergency services carried out their response efforts.

Authorities have advised residents to avoid the area and, as a precaution, to keep windows and doors closed in nearby buildings.
