Amerigo Vespucci in Livorno for Final Leg of World Tour

The iconic Italian Navy training ship Amerigo Vespucci has arrived in the port of Livorno, marking the 17th and penultimate stop of its 2023–2025 World Tour. The ship will remain docked until the morning of Sunday, June 8, before setting sail for the final celebration in Genoa, where it will conclude its journey during the Italian Navy Day on June 10.

The Vespucci was welcomed with a solemn ceremony at the Capitaneria pier, attended by local civil and military authorities. The event featured performances by the Naval Academy Band, the Fanfara of the Folgore Brigade, and other military music ensembles, creating a festive atmosphere as crowds lined up from early morning to greet the ship.

On board are the first-year cadets of the Italian Naval Academy, who embarked in Brindisi and will disembark in Reggio Calabria. A new group of cadets is expected to board in Livorno for the next leg to Genoa.

The ship’s presence in Livorno is part of the Mediterranean leg of its tour, with public visits scheduled throughout its stay. However, all free tickets—available exclusively through online registration—have already sold out. Each visitor was able to reserve up to four nominal tickets, with no changes allowed after booking.

In addition to public visits, Livorno is hosting a series of events to honor the ship’s arrival. On Thursday, June 6, paratroopers from the Italian Army’s Sports Activities Unit and the Tuscania Regiment will perform aerial demonstrations between 11:30–11:45 a.m. and 5:00–6:00 p.m.

The departure on June 8 promises to be another highlight. The Vespucci will be accompanied by a historical parade featuring the banners of the Maritime Republic of Pisa and greeted by local rowing associations—an evocative tribute to Italy’s maritime heritage.

After more than a year of global navigation, the Amerigo Vespucci—often called “the most beautiful ship in the world”—is now on the final stretch of its homecoming journey. The last opportunity to visit the ship will be in Genoa, where festivities will culminate its historic tour (In the photo, the ship arriving in Reggio Calabria).
