FLORENCE, ITALY – On Friday morning October 25, 2024, students and staff at the Leonardo da Vinci State Science High School on Via Giovanni dei Marignolli in Florence were evacuated after a loud noise was heard. Approximately one thousand students, together with their teachers, exited the building as the fire alarm sounded. Structural damage is reportedly present at a construction site on the lower floors of the building, where renovation work is ongoing.
The damage occurred in a construction area on the ground floor and involved a non-load-bearing partition wall. Following the noise, the school’s emergency plan was activated as a precaution, though no injuries have been reported.
Firefighters, local police, and an ambulance quickly arrived at the scene, with the police closing the street to traffic. In one classroom directly above the construction site, students felt the floor shake as though a hole might appear.
