FLORENCE, ITALY – To encourage tourism to return to the city the mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, has decided to take the field personally. He will be an exceptional tour guide for tourists. Nardella announced it during the presentation of the Destination Florence Plus web platform.
“The city thrives on tourism, an economy around it to which more than 20.00 people work, I think is right to put all the ideas into play – said mayor Nardella -. I brought a personal one, that of making myself available to visitors who will come from Italy, from Europe and hopefully soon also from the United States and from Asia, acting as a guide. I will devote some of my free time to to encourage Italians and foreigners to visit Florence. Obviously, I do not replace the professionals, indeed I hope that tour guides can resume working at full capacity very soon”.
The mayor will guide tourists drawing lots in Destination Florence website, those who will win the tours. Today in Palazzo Vecchio he tested himself for the first time in his new role: “I’ve started with a French couple coming from Boston, managed to enter Italy only because they have a European passport, demonstrating how much the procedure still is complicated. I enjoyed guiding this couple, also because I showed to them some places that they don’t always fit into museum tours: I brought them into my office, the hall of Clement VII”.

Nardella in a video on social media also asked other famous Florentines to make themselves available and do the same. The city councilor for tourism offered to be a guide, starting today with a SUP ride on the Arno river. For the moment, the mayor’s appeal has been joined by the actor Maurizio Lombardi (known for his role in New Pope), the TV presenter Carlo Conti, the artist Chiara Francini.
