FLORENCE, ITALY – At least 39 million foreign and domestic tourists are set to take trips to Italy this summer, up 12% with respect to 2020, according to a new study by the Demoskopika agency with the University of Sannio. The introduction of the green pass announced by the Draghi government for the second half of May has contribute to the growth of tourism. For the summer 2021 are expected over 1.7 billion of tourist expenditures.
Five are the most popular regions for summer 2021: Puglia, Tuscany, Sicily, Emilia Romagna and Sardinia. 6 out of 10 Italians will choose a destination near to the sea, while cities of art, culture and villages are preferred by the 12.7% and mountains and nature by the 9.1%.
“Fortunately, Italian tourism is in a period of gradual recovery – Demoskopika President Raffaele Rio said -. Our estimates are prudent. We have received signals that the sector could register increases in flows that are much higher. The vaccine plan and the green pass (for travel) are undoubtedly an incentive to the process of tourism recovery”.
