FLORENCE, ITALY – ACF Fiorentina announced that Stefano Pioli is their new coach.
A former defender, Pioli made 156 appearances for Fiorentina between 1989 and 1995 and also wore the captain’s armband. The 51-year-old will sign a two-year contract with the club, with an option for the third season.
ACF Fiorentina finished eighth last term under Portuguese coach Paulo Sousa, outside the European qualification spots, like Inter, who were seventh.
On November 2016, Pioli was appointed as the new head coach of Internazionale on an eighteen-month contract. He was sacked in May 2017.
With Pioli, Inter had won 12 of the first 16 Serie A matches that Pioli was in charge of but this was followed by 2 draws and 5 losses in their last 7 Serie A matches prior to his sacking. The former Lazio boss was in charge of Inter for most of last season.
