FLORENCE, ITALY – Lights, markets, ice rinks and Christmas trees in the city of Florence.
Piazza Santa Croce is the venue for the Weihnachtsmarkt (a German word which means Christmas market) with its stalls selling decorations for trees and houses, Christmas cakes such as the Stollen or spiced biscuits accompanied by the invigorating Glühwein (mulled wine), besides food and snacks from November 30 to December 18, 2016.
Decorated and illuminated, the city’s largest Christmas tree is located in Piazza Duomo, right in front of the Cathedral: during its first enlightenment will start F-Light, Florence Light Festival, which will light up the main architectures of the city center. This year topic will be the source, not only synonym of the place in which the water comes out, but also light source: the water and light union represents the beginning of life, the origin. In this way, a lot of monuments and buildings will be flooded by light.
As far as cribs are concerned, besides the external crib in Piazza del Duomo, beautiful ones are created inside many churches in the city.
Still on the subject of “Nativity”, we recommend the Pageant of the Three Wise Men, a costume procession through all the historic center on horseback, with hundreds of participants. The procession refers to the fresco by Benozzo Gozzoli located in Palazzo Medici Riccardi palace; it will take place on the day of Epiphany.
Visitors can enjoy a Winter Park, set up along the Arno river near the Obihall Theater, where to play winter sports.
