FLORENCE, ITALY – The mayor of Florence, Dario Nardella, aims to finalize the Arno walkway created few days ago to help to restore Lungarno Torrigiani, where a 200-meter-long hole opened up May 25, 2016.
The mayor wrote the idea on Facebook asking residents’ opinion. According to Nardella, the new footbridge could become a place for walking, following the example of what has been done in Rome and Paris.
The comments of residents and tourists seems mostly favorable, but the Civil Engineers have stated that it is not appropriate because it restricts the river bed in a point already tight and a few meters from Ponte Vecchio.
The center of Florence is at risk of flooding and this realization may facilitate the water outlet. No final decision on the subject has yet been taken.
