FLORENCE, ITALY – The Vigili del Fuoco di Firenze (Florence Fire Department) intervened in Florence to save an owl got stuck on the terrace of an apartment in via Maroncelli, close to the Florence stadium.
The operation took place Thursday, March 17, 2016. The raptor was stuck between the awning and the building wall.
The staff of the Fire Department found the bird in good condition, then they handed over to the Italian association LIPU (Italian League for Bird Protection).
Owls are carnivorous birds of prey and live mainly on a diet of insects and small rodents such as mice, rats and hares. They are pretty common in the Tuscan cities and they are very adept in hunting in their respective environments.
Since owls can be found in nearly all parts of the world and across a multitude of ecosystems, their hunting skills and characteristics vary slightly from species to species, though most characteristics are shared among all species.
