Meningitis, Tuscany to vaccinate 1.5 mln people

FLORENCE, ITALY – Tuscan Governor Enrico Rossi said Tuesday February 16, 2016, that Tuscany would vaccinate 1.5 million people against meningitis C while denying there was a pandemic and calling for calm.

«We will vaccinate 1.5 million Tuscans but I think it is right above all to appeal to citizens for calm, because the phenomenon does not justify any talk of a pandemic. These are cautionary measures, rather than preventive ones,» Enrico Rossi said.

An intensive vaccination campaign will be launched in the provinces of Florence, Prato and Pistoia, the Tuscan areas that have registered a significant rise in meningitis cases in recent months.
