Uffizi and Pitti will sign an agreement shortly

FLORENCE, ITALY – Culture and economic development, contemporary fashion and the culture of fashion, beauty, creativity and tourism: these are the main focal themes for the 89th edition of Pitti Immagine Uomo, closed yesterday January 16, 2016 in Florence, Italy.

Minister Franceschini reiterated the need for “a pact between the world of fashion and the world of culture”. During his speech he announced collaboration and imminent signing of an agreement between the Uffizi Gallery Management and Pitti Immagine Discovery, the foundation comprising Pitti Immagine and the Florence Centre for Italian Fashion to support dialogue between fashion and the languages of contemporary culture and to enhance new generations in the system.

Details of this agreement, on which the Director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt is working with his closest collaborators and the Pitti Immagine and Fondazione Discovery team, will be announced in the weeks to come. It aims to put in place a three-year programme for 2016-2018 of cultural exhibitions of contemporary fashion, to be held in the Palazzo Pitti museums, subject to the Palazzo’s ordinary museum and exhibition activity. The agreement does not provide for the possibility of using the Uffizi as a stage for fashion shows, told later the director of the Uffizi Gallery, Eike Schmidt.

“I want to open all Italian places of beauty to fashion, without the barriers of ideology or snobbism, because they are two pieces of our national identity and this is an ace up the sleeve of Italian fashion competitiveness”, minister Franceschini said.
