British tourist dies while swimming at Elba

FLORENCE, ITALY – An 85-year-old British tourist died while swimming off the coast of Tuscany’s Elba island earlier on Tuesday October 13, 2015.

His wife alerted Carabinieri police after her husband failed to return from a swim off the beach in the seaside town of Marina di Campo.

One of the officers saw the man floating some distance from shore and swam to retrieve him with the aid of two other bathers.

Emergency volunteers tried unsuccessful to reanimate him, and he was pronounced dead at the scene.
