FLORENCE, ITALY – The summer sales in Italy have not given the right impetus to the domestic trade. In the fact, consumer and business confidence dropped in July, Istat national statistics bureau said today July 28, 2015. Retailers were positive about current sales, but had lowered expectations on future sales.
Consumer confidence fell to 106.5 from 109.3 the previous month. The drop was due to loss of confidence in the economic climate in Italy and the outlook for the future. Consumers recorded lowered expectations about the economic situation of families.
Overall business confidence fell slightly to 104.3 from 104.7 in June.
However service sector business confidence rose to 110 from 109.2 in June and retail confidence increased from 105.9 in June to 106.5 in July. Manufacturing confidence fell from 103.9 to 103.6, and construction confidence dropped from 119.7 to 117.6 on lowered orders and employment expectations.
