FLORENCE, ITALY – Unions representing civil servants started to occupy the offices of the provincial florentine governments indefinitely to protest against the central government’s 2015 budget bill.
The unions fear cuts to local authorities in the budget plan with worsen the impact of the reorganisation of the authorities required because the provincial level of administration is being scrapped.
Unions are ready to extend all the Italian provinces and, unless the government intervenes and takes a step back on harmful, senseless measures, it will not stop,unions said. Fp-Cgil, Uil-Fpl and Cisl-Fp unions said there is a risk that 20,000 workers on permanent contracts and over 2,000 on temporary ones will lose their jobs.
