
FLORENCE, ITALY – Gül left Turkey for Italy on Tuesday. It was he first visit in Italy in four years. The President of Turkey was in Italy to talk with Italian officials, including his Italian counterpart, Giorgio Napolitano, about Turkey’s EU bid, bilateral relations and regional developments during the three-day trip.
Florence was to be the last destination for Gül during his Italy trip. Gül was scheduled to move on to Florence, but the visit was canceled due to inclement weather conditions. Gül was expected to meet with the mayor and the governor of Florence.
While in Italy, Gül thanked his Italian counterpart for Italy’s support for Turkey’s bid to become a full member of the EU. He reiterated that Turkey’s first target is to finalize the accession process successfully.
