FLORENCE, ITALY – Who was the Elettrice Palatina (wife of the noble German prince Johann Karl Wilhelm 1st ) whose death is commemorated 18 February in Florence?
Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici – Elettrice Palatina, last scion of the House of Medici, made the great achievement of drawing up a juridical act, known as the “Patto di famiglia” (family agreement). With this the last heir of the family tied up all goods that were part of the Medici collection accumulated over centuries in the Grand Dukedom of Tuscany.
Thus, thanks to Anna Maria Luise de’ Medici, the artistic heritage of Florence that is unrivaled remained in the city.
To honour Anna Maria Luisa de’ Medici the historic parade of the “Florentine Republic” will start at 10.40 am at the “Palagio di Parte Guelfa”, then continue on the central streets accompanying the municipal authorities to the Medici Chapels where they pay a floral tribute to the tomb of the Elettrice Palatina.
