
FLORENCE, ITALY – Prosecutors in the Tuscan town of Grosseto have ended their investigation into the Costa Concordia cruise ship disaster leaving defense attorneys for the accused 20 days to deposit their replies.
Following the 20-day period, the prosecutors will be able to officially formulate their request for trial for the 10 people accused of causing the disaster, including former captain Francesco Schettino.
Schettino and nine other crew members are accused of manslaughter for the death of 32 people after the Costa Concordia cruise liner ran aground off the Giglio Island, just off the coast of Tuscany. Prosecutors have accumulated some 50,000 pages of documents after having interviewed almost 200 people. (Ansa)
