FLORENCE, ITALY – This is an Autumn of flavours in Tuscany. From chestnuts to new olive oil and truffles, there are a great many festivals and fairs dedicated to local products. For lovers of wine and good food, there are food festivals dedicated to typical products in the most beautiful locations and medieval or renaissance towns of Tuscany.
At Arezzo, Autumn begins with the Sagra delle Castagne, the Chestnut Festival, at Talla on November 1, while December 11-12 is the honey festival in Arezzo.
In Florence, during 16 days in November there are many events, markets and shows at the Biennale Enogastronomica, a huge gastronomic event from November 3-18.
There are also many events in the province of Florence. At Figline Valdarno, November 10-11, there is the traditional ‘Autumnia’ festival, dedicated to typical local products. At Campi Bisenzio, November 20-22, there will be the tripe and lampredotto food festival. For the whole month of November at Calenzano there will be tastings at the festival dedicated to new olive oil. At Vinci there is the festival of wine and new oil, and at Lastra a Signa, December 8-11, the festival entitled ‘historic tastes of Tuscany’ will take place.
At Montepulciano, November 23-25, there will be the Festival of Winter Tastes. For the whole month of November, at Castiglione d’Orcia, there will be an Autumn Festival concentrating on New Oil. Finally, December 8-19 at Torrita di Siena, there will be a grand festival of Vin Santo.
Don’t forget the events at Vetrina Toscana, full of the Tuscan tastes of Autumn, from the oil of Florence and Lucca to the seafood of Livorno and wine from the hills of Pisa. The restaurants in the provinces of Arezzo, Pistoia and Grosseto will be offering a great variety of seasonal dishes.
