FLORENCE, ITALY – This week the snow has covered almost all of Tuscany. Temperatures are still very cold, below zero, but the snow of these days is perfect for skiing. Tuscany is a great region for winter sports.
Abetone (Pistoia), just a couple of hours by car from Florence, is the most famous place for skiing and snowboarding. It has 50kms of slopes. There are many ski resorts throughout the Abetone area, including Doganaccia between Corno alle Scale and Monte Libero Aperto where it’s possible to have a go on a bob sleigh.
In southern Tuscany it’s possible to ski on Monte Amiata from four resorts called Prato della Contessa, il Prato delle Macinaie, la Marsiliana and the Cantore refuge. On Monte Amiata there are 25kms of slopes and 12kms of cross country skiing tracks.
In the Lunigiana region, the best skiing can be had at Zum Zeri, on the border with Liguria and Emilia Romagna. There are 9 slopes, a children’s play area, 3 ski lifts and an area for snowboarding. Read the daily weather forecast and the open slopes to Intoscana website.
