He consolidated boundings for months, carried on negotiations and agreements, and at the end he reached to gather around him the “top” of jazz in the Big Apple. Now the team of “all star” is done, and from 23th to 30th January in New York pianist Fabrizio Mocata – Sicilian by birth, Florentine by adoption – will record an album that promises to be one of the most interesting of the new record’s years.
At Michiko Study on the 46th street Mocata will play piano (some time ago he became famous for the debut of “Puccini Moods”, the reinterpretation of some of jazz’s most famous arias of Giacomo Puccini), Marco Panascia will play the bass, George Garzone on sax and Ferenc Nemeth at drums.
“The project started last summer – says Mocata – with Panascia, that I’ve known fifteen years ago. I’ll join him in New York, where he moved, and we’ll start recording. We will use complex rhythms, with pulsating and modern style. Research will be particularly melodic and harmonic, which will offer both experimental and singable subjects, with a clear echo of our Sicilian and Mediterranean roots”.
So, after exporting its Jazz in Africa and before moving to Uruguay and Argentina to play with the masters of the tango, Fabrizio Mocata will bring in New York the inspiration that has already enshrined him as one of the most respected and innovative musicians in Italy. In Mocata’s portfolio are gems like the aforementioned “Puccini Moods” with Gianmarco Scaglia (bassist) and Ettore Fioravanti (drummer). Now it’s time to record in New York.
