Growth in passenger traffic in December at the airport of Florence. The performance of the number of passengers showed a positive 4.5%, compared to the same period of 2010. A total of 1,906,099 passengers recorded in 2011, up almost 10% over the previous year.
In December, particular growth concerned the international traffic (8%), thanks to the positive performance of Alitalia, Lufthansa and Air France. Excellent performance of Austrian Airlines with the introduction of direct connection to Vienna and Air Berlin with route to Dusseldorf.
Regarding the component of national traffic, ADF report the positive result thanks to Alitalia flights to Rome and Catania. Alitalia signs an excellent result with the increase of traffic on Florence by 82% compared to December 2010.
Overall the year 2011 reported an increase in passengers of 9.7% compared to 2010, allowing the Vespucci return to significant levels recorded before the crisis of 2009.
The increase of the number of passengers was not followed by a corresponding increase in the number of flights (still positive by 3.8%), confirming a greater coverage of higher capacity aircraft used by airlines.
The result of 2011 was achieved despite the 774 flights canceled or diverted, mainly because of the known meteorological phenomena, and the decline of Meridiana Fly over the last three months of the year.
For the Amerigo Vespucci, annual growth of +9.7% is higher than the national average of several points and places it at 42nd place on 143 airports in the ranking ACI Europe of the major European airports.
