Bad summer for tourism in Tuscany
“For the first time in the history of Italian tourism” in August tourist reservations in hotels decreased 1.1%, with a -3% of Italians and +2.1% of foreigners, said Bernabo’ Bocca, the president of Federalberghi which groups Italian hoteliers, commenting monthly data released by the federation. July and August together recorded a -6% in Italians and +1.1% in foreigners.

Gas prices in Italy, as in many parts of the world, have risen again with many parts of the country showing record highs. Tuscany is the first region for the average price of “super”. It has reached 2 euro per liter last week for the first time ever. The increased cost in Tuscany is due to a regional tax that will be used to pay flood damages and the island of Elba and in Lunigiana last winter.

“Lucipherous”, the 7th subtropical cyclone of the season, is petering out. A significant change in the weather is forecast for tomorrow night thanks to the landfall of “Beatrice”, the long awaited end-of-August storm. This year the city of Florence had the hottest summer in decades not because of the extremes temperature recorded, but mostly because the heat wave lasted more than two months without rain.
George Clooney to get gas: stop in Tuscany
Technical stop in Tuscany for the popular American actor George Clooney, who was forced to land his helicopter at the airport of Cinquale (Massa Carrara), in northern Tuscany. The aircraft was carrying Clooney to his villa on the Como Lake and needed to refuel. After half an hour, completed the supply, the American star and his staff have broken down.
