A 23-year-old man was arrested in Florence after robbing an American student in the historic center of the city during the night of September 2.
According to investigators, the suspect – an Italian national with no fixed residence and already known to the authorities – allegedly took €20 in cash and some tobacco from the student. The victim reacted quickly, using pepper spray to defend himself, recover his belongings, and restrain the assailant until the police arrived.
Carabinieri officers intervened immediately and took the 23-year-old into custody on charges of robbery.
Episodes of petty crime and theft do occur in Florence, especially in areas around the historic center, where many tourists and international students spend their evenings. Local authorities regularly remind visitors to remain cautious, particularly at night.
