Step into the Renaissance: “Fiorenza – At the Medici Court” Brings History to Life

Florence is set to travel back in time on April 5th and 6th as the Visarno Hippodrome transforms into a vibrant Renaissance village for “Fiorenza – Alla corte dei Medici.” This historical reenactment, organized by LndF – Le Nozze di Figaro and Compagnia dell’Aquila Bianca, is sponsored by the Municipality of Florence. The choice of location pays tribute to Cosimo I de’ Medici, who designated the Cascine Park as a hunting estate and agricultural domain in the 16th century.

Visitors will experience an immersive dive into the art, culture, and daily life of the Renaissance, surrounded by artisans, merchants, and flag throwers. Numerous associations, both local and national, specializing in historical reenactments, will contribute to the event. Among them, the Compagnia dell’Aquila Bianca will showcase medieval and Renaissance fencing and equestrian skills, highlighting these disciplines as true Western martial arts.

The festivities will kick off with the Historical Parade of the Florentine Republic, featuring figures from the 16th-century tradition, including the renowned Madonne Fiorentine, whose elaborate costumes draw inspiration from masterpieces housed in the Palatine Gallery and the Uffizi. On Sunday afternoon, Filippo Giovannelli, president of the General States of Historical Reenactment, and Roberto Cinquegrana, historian, writer, and president of the Compagnia dell’Aquila Bianca, will lead a conference on Renaissance history.

Children will have the opportunity to try archery, flag-waving, and pony riding, courtesy of the La Pieve Equestrian Center and the Knights of the Golden Lily. Meanwhile, food lovers can indulge in Renaissance-era cuisine in dedicated gastronomic spaces.

“Fiorenza” will be open on Saturday, April 5th, from 11 AM to 9 PM, and on Sunday, April 6th, from 11 AM to 8 PM. Tickets are priced at €5 for a single day and €7 for a two-day pass (available on Ticketone). Admission is free for children under 12. The entrance is located at Piazzale delle Cascine, near the Faculty of Agriculture.
