Technological upgrade for the railway system in Florence

A significant technological upgrade is underway for the railway system in Florence, with a €15 million investment aimed at improving the efficiency and punctuality of train services. The Italian state-owned Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI) has introduced a cutting-edge Apparato Centrale Computerizzato Multistazione (ACCM) and Sistema Comando Controllo Multistazione (SCCM) across stations in Rovezzano and Firenze Campo di Marte. These systems will enhance the control of train circulation in the busy Florence railway node, impacting routes such as Firenze Santa Maria Novella, Rovezzano, and Campo di Marte.

The advanced technology is expected to bring several benefits, including higher reliability and more efficient traffic management, particularly during peak times. Predictive diagnostics systems will also play a role in preventing sudden malfunctions, improving infrastructure maintenance. This is part of a broader project to modernize Florence’s railway infrastructure, which is set to continue in the coming years
