FLORENCE, ITALY – The Amazon founder and CEO Jeff Bezos is in Florence for vacation and last Friday July 22, 2016 had lunch at the Palazzo Vecchio with the Italian premier Matteo Renzi.
The buffet was set up in Room of the Elements in the 13th-century Palazzo Vecchio, which houses city hall. Florence Mayor Dario Nardella is slated to also attend the lunch.
Renzi and Nardella gave Beozos a personal tour of the city’s architectural jewel, startring from the walls in the Room of the Elements, decorated with Renaissance allegorical frescoes of Water, Fire and Earth.
The company said it has invested over 450 million euros and created over 1,000 new permanent full-time jobs since it began operating in Italy in 2010. Also on Friday, Amazon announced it is opening a new research and development center in Turin by the end of 2016.
