Merkel Renzi summit

Merkel, Renzi politics inspired by Michelangelo

FLORENCE, ITALY – At the foot of the world-famous Michelangelo’s David in the Accademia Gallery, an unusual press room in Florence, Italy, hosted the Prime Minister Matteo Renzi and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel in the last act of the two-days meeting between Germany and Italy, started Thursday night in Florence.

“Michelangelo made his masterpiece by removing the excess marble. Italy and Europe must do the same: remove what blocks the path of reform, primarily the bureaucracy, and put the turbo,” premier Renzi said.

“It’s a good time to make reforms, Italy will use it,” added Chancellor Merkel. Behind them stood the David, symbol of beauty, Florence, Italy and Europe. It will represent Italy in the upcoming Expo2015 event too.

Thursday January 22, 2015, Renzi and Merkel have a dinner in one of the frescoed rooms of Palazzo Vecchio, visited Uffizi Gallery and Corridoio vasariano. This morning Merkel met a group of German entrepreneurs, before the final meeting with Renzi and the press conference.
