FLORENCE, ITALY – Read, Eat, Dream ( Red ) in Florence, Italy. The new bookstore in the central piazza della Repubblica was opened last Tuesday by Feltrinelli, with the cooperation of the University of Gastronomic Sciences, directed by Carlo Petrini. The aim is ensuring a link between books and foods from Tuscany.
On a 700 square meters sales area, Red offers a range of 20,000 book titles, as well as music, home video, travel accessories and a 70 seats restaurant. 14 workers are employed in the library, 18 in the restaurant.
According to the Feltrinelli Libraries CEO, Stefano Sardo, the investment in Florence is about 1.5-2 million euros . He expects 4 million euros sale: a quarter from the Restaurants (about 1.1 million ), the remaining three quarters from the library.
After opening in Milan, Florence is the second new conception store based on the combination of books and food: upcoming openings should be in Rome, Bologna and Naples.
After closing the historic Feltrinelli International, the group maintains in Florence the traditional store in via de’ Cerretani. In the coming months it will open a new store at the Santa Maria Novella central station.
