FLORENCE, ITALY – Middle East Now has just started in Florence, Italy. The festival (April 9-April 14, 2014) presents the contemporary Middle East and North Africa, through cinema, documentaries, art projects, music, food and special events.
Highlights Cinema Program: the “Morocco Night” (Friday 11 April), a special evening dedicated to Morocco, with the screening of the acclaimed film “Rock the Casbah” by Laila Marrakchi; from Syria the documentary “Return to Homs” by Tatal Derki (Saturday, April 12) winner of the “World Cinema Grand Jury Prize” at Sundance Film Festival; from Iran the dark comedy “Fish & Cat” by Shahram Mokri (Saturday, April 12).
News Special Events. Opening (Friday April 11) of the photo-exhibition “Occupied Pleasures” by Tanya Habjouqa: at Aria Art Gallery (Borgo SS. Apostoli 40); opening of the photo-exhibition “Persia Mon Amour” by Edoardo Delille and Jacopo Storni (Saturday 12 April) at Galleria Boralevi (Via Maggio 16/R);
The first concert in Italy of Mashrou’ Leila, the most popular indie-rock band of the Middle East (Friday 11 April – Auditorium Flog).
