FLORENCE, ITALY – Maggio Musicale Fiorentino helds its 75th edition on the theme of the voyage. Theatre, performers, and audience from Mitteleuropa to the important tour in South America (7-21 August 2012) in this year of the celebrations for Amerigo Vespucci on the occasion of the 500th anniversary of the death of the Florentine explorer (1454 – 1512).
Maggio Musicale offers a different show or performance or meeting or film every day, in and out of the theatre, in the city for instance concerts will be held at the Cloister of San Lorenzo, or during the festival for contemporary performing arts Fabbrica Europa.
This year the Festival has a much closer collaboration with local cultural institutions. The Festival was opened on May 4th with an opera by Richard Strauss, Der Rosenkavalier conducted by Zubin Mehta.
As far as exhibitions are concerned at the New Florence Opera House during performances it will be possible to visit the exhibition Dissonanze e consonanze pittoriche e musicali al Maggio Guttuso-Scialoja-Vlad 1948-1951 from 7 May to 10 June.
