FLORENCE, ITALY – Piazza della Signoria in Florence paved in brick, as in the past centuries. It is the new idea launched by the Mayor Matteo Renzi during a communication as Councilor for culture.
“It is an issue – he added – that we will resume at the appropriate time, with a special commission. It will not be easy to convince superintendents, but would be nice to try.” ”Piazza Signoria would be so beautiful,” said Renzi, but stated that “the work could start only in 2015.”
It is not the first time that such idea is proposed. About 20 years ago it has been opened a subscription to buy the brick and repave the square, but in the end it all came to nothing.
