Abetone ski lifts to stay open through Easter, season extended to mid-April

Ski lifts in Abetone, one of Tuscany’s main mountain resorts in the province of Pistoia, will remain open throughout the Easter period and until 12 April, according to the local lift operators’ consortium.

The decision follows a period of consistently low temperatures and stable snow cover, which have helped preserve good skiing conditions despite the approach of spring.

Good snow conditions support late-season skiing

Operators say recent and forecast weather conditions are expected to maintain the slopes in good shape. A new snowfall was forecast for late March, followed by a drop in temperatures that should help keep the snow compact and skiable.

Night-time temperatures remain low, which is crucial for preserving the snowpack, while ongoing maintenance work on the slopes has contributed to keeping the ski area fully operational.

Possible weekend openings after 12 April

The consortium has confirmed that lifts will run daily until 12 April. After that date, further openings may be considered on weekends, depending on weather conditions and snow quality.
Abetone is located about 80 kilometres north-west of Florence, in the Tuscan-Emilian Apennines, and is one of the most accessible ski destinations for residents of central Tuscany. Late-season skiing is relatively uncommon in the region, making this extension notable for both locals and visitors planning spring trips to the mountains.
