Eurovision: Maneskin respond to the drug rumours

FLORENCE, ITALY – Maneskin, the Italian band that won the Eurovision Song Contest 2021  on Saturday night, has pledged to take a drugs test to prove allegations that  Damiano David lead singer snorted cocaine live on TV are false.

The case regards footage of the frontman, Damiano, briefly dipping his head down towards a table in front of him during the show. He said he bend down to pick up a broken glass.

“(Guitarist Thomas Raggi) broke a glass…I don’t use drugs. Please guys, do not say that. Don’t say that, really. No cocaine, please, do not say that” – Damiano said – “I’ill do the test so that there will be a sheet of paper that says who is right and who is wrong”.

Maneskin official response

The band and their management have informed that no drugs were present in the Green Room and explained that a glass was broken at their table and it was being cleared by the singer. The EBU can confirm broken glass was found after an on-site check. 

Italian State broadcaster RAI, which screened the show in Italy, has stood by the Rome band, calling the row “absurd”.

Italy, the betting favorite going into the show, won the 65th edition of the Eurovision Song Contest with 524 points. French chanteuse Barbara Pravi came in second with 499 points and Switzerland’s Gjon’s Tears followed with 432 points.
