March 8th at museums, free entrance for women

FLORENCE, ITALY – To celebrate this year’s International Women’s Day, on March 8th all women can visit the Uffizi Gallery for free.

This year, as in the past, on International Women’s Day, all the National Museums in Italy will be open free for women. A joyous occasion, which the Ministry of Cultural Heritage and Activities and of Tourism, under its Minister Dario Franceschini, celebrates, along with the free openings, a social media campaign and a special collection of images. You will see exceptional women whose fame across the centuries is known owing to art and culture.

Also for this initiative, the visitors are invited to go on a digital treasure hunt in the Italian Museums. Using a smartphone or camera, everyone can find women in paintings, sculptures and the decorative arts from various periods and collections.
Share images using the hashtag #8marzoalmuseo, thereby disseminating the beauty of Italian art.

In Florence, free entrance will also be granted to women at all of the museums of the Palazzo Pitti, Boboli Gardens, Accademia Gallery, Bargello, Medici Chapels and Palazzo Davanzati as well as at the Civic Museums, which includes: Palazzo Vecchio, Santa Maria Novella and the Museo del Novecento.
