Jorge Lorenzo took a victory at the Mugello circuit, Florence, Italy, leading from the first turn till the finish. This win extended his lead in the championship to 19 points over second placed Dani Pedrosa. The race started with Pedrosa entering turn one in the lead, but he ran wide in the long right hand sweeper leaving a gap for Lorenzo to squeeze through.
