The crew of the cruise liner Costa Concordia was awarded the title of ‘Seafarer of the year’ in the Lloyd’s List Global awards 2012. “Captain Francesco Schettino was delighted to know that his crew was awarded the prize ‘for the courage and professional skills’ shown during the Costa Concordia shipwreck, off the shores of Giglio Island”, a statement of the law firm defending Schettino.

Piero Luigi Vigna dies today in Florence, Italy. He was born on August, 1, 1933, he was an Italian former magistrate. From 1997 to 2005 he was Chief of the Procura Nazionale Antimafia (National Antimafia Prosecution Office).
New Tuscan restaurant in Lower Manhattan, NYC
The rich flavors of Tuscany will soon find a new home in Lower Manhattan. Felice 15 Gold Street — an Italian restaurant with two other establisments on the Upper East Side — will open a third location October 3 in Gild Hall at 15 Gold St. in the Financial District, it announced on Facebook.
OSCE deplores Italian criminal defamation ruling
The OSCE Representative on Freedom of the Media, Dunja Mijatović, today called on the Italian authorities to reform libel laws following an Italian high court ruling upholding the criminal conviction and 14-month prison sentence imposed on Allessandro Sallusti, former editor of the newspaper Libero. Michelangelo’s show travels to Virginia
The Muscarelle Museum of Art at the College of William & Mary in Williamsburg (Virginia, USA) will held the exhibition “Michelangelo: Sacred and Profane Masterpiece Drawings From the Casa Buonarroti.” The exhibition, which opens at the Muscarelle on Feb. 9 and then travels to the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, in April.
Poggio Valicaia, a verdant oasis of art
The Park of Poggio Valicaia is set in the hills to the south west of Florence in the municipality of Scandicci. It was once an extensive, privately-owned farm but when it was donated to the town, it was turned into a public park. To begin with it was only used for day-trips and picnics, but in 2003, with the installation of works by contemporary artists, it became a museum park.
