How Americans elect their president?

In the fact, On November 7, 2000, American voters went to the polls to choose their next president. Al Gore, the nominee of the Democratic Party, received 543,895 more votes than his Republican Party challenger, George W. Bush.

As history records, however, Bush became president, not Gore. In his lecture, Professor Tucker will explain exactly how this came to pass. More specifically, Professor Tucker will describe the unique rules the United States uses to elect its President, focusing in particular on the role of that peculiarly American institution, the Electoral College.
