Sanremo Music Festival is Italy’s most prestigious music competition

Sanremo 2025: Tuscany’s Strong Presence in Italy’s Iconic Music Festival

Sanremo Music Festival is Italy’s most prestigious music competition, held annually since 1951. It serves as a showcase for Italian music and culture, drawing millions of viewers. The winner earns the honor of representing Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest, making it a pivotal event in the country’s music scene.

This year’s edition, running from February 11 to 15 and hosted by Florentine presenter Carlo Conti, features a diverse lineup of artists, including three from Tuscany: Francesco Gabbani, Irama, and Lucio Corsi. Additionally, Jovanotti (Lorenzo Cherubini) will make a special guest appearance on February 11, marking his return to the stage after recovering from a serious accident.

The Tuscan Contestants

  • Francesco Gabbani (Carrara): A past Sanremo winner, he rose to fame with Occidentali’s Karma in 2017. Known for his catchy melodies and thought-provoking lyrics, he returns as one of the favorites.
  • Irama (Carrara/Pontremoli): With multiple Sanremo appearances, Irama is a well-established artist blending pop and urban sounds. His participation reaffirms his status as a festival mainstay.
  • Lucio Corsi (Vetulonia): Making his Sanremo debut, Corsi brings a unique mix of rock, blues, and folk. Already featured in Vita da Carlo 3, his participation bridges fiction and reality.

New Talents and Missed Opportunities

Tuscany was also represented in the Nuove Proposte category, though neither Moska Drunkard (Cristina Rizzo, based in Siena) nor Niccolò Selmi (Lucca) advanced to the final selection.

With a mix of seasoned performers and emerging talent, Sanremo 2025 promises an exciting competition. The festival’s winner will not only claim a prestigious title but also represent Italy at the Eurovision Song Contest, further elevating Italian music on the international stage.
