New Year’s Eve in Florence: Five Squares of Music

Florence is set to ring in 2025 with a magical night of music and entertainment spread across five iconic squares in the historic city center. The lineup includes renowned artists such as Mr. Rain, Giovanni Caccamo, and BowLand, alongside jazz, gospel, opera, and even marching bands. The event, organized by the Municipality of Florence with the support of Fondazione MUS.E and Toscana Energia, promises something for every taste and age group.

“New Year’s Eve is always a special moment for Florence, offering a variety of opportunities for everyone,” said Mayor Sara Funaro. “This year, we’ve designed a program that caters to all ages, including children, while spotlighting areas like Via Palazzuolo and Via Finiguerra, which are part of our ongoing efforts to enhance Florence’s historic center. With diverse events and celebrated performers, we aim to make this New Year’s Eve unforgettable for locals and visitors alike.”

Cultural Affairs Councillor Giovanni Bettarini added, “This is a fantastic occasion to gather in the city’s squares to celebrate with music, performances, and activities for children. Let’s welcome 2025 together with joy and entertainment.”

Highlights Across Five Squares

Piazza della Signoria: Music, Magic, and More

The heart of Florence will feature an eclectic mix of performances starting at 5:15 PM with family-friendly entertainment by Lorenzo Baglioni, magician Mattia Boschi, and ventriloquist Nicola Pesaresi. From 6:45 PM to 9:00 PM, a spectacular video mapping display by Stefano Fomasi will transform Palazzo Vecchio’s façade.

Evening performances will include operatic masterpieces from young talents of the Maggio Musicale Fiorentino Academy, leading up to sets by acclaimed artists such as Deborah Iurato, Syria, and Giovanni Caccamo. At 11:30 PM, rapper and singer-songwriter Mr. Rain will take the stage, captivating the crowd with hits like La Fine del Mondo and Supereroi. The celebration continues past midnight with BowLand, the Florence-based Iranian trio known for their unique blend of trip-hop and electronic music.

Piazza San Giovanni: Soulful Gospel

This square will resonate with the powerful voices of The Pilgrims and Lara Johnson & the Black Voices. Hosted by the Musart Association, the event will run from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM, featuring gospel music that blends tradition with contemporary flair.

Piazza Santissima Annunziata: Jazz in Light

Jazz enthusiasts can head to Piazza Santissima Annunziata for “Jazz in Luce,” an immersive event combining the talents of Nino Buonocore, his quartet, and saxophonist Max Ionata with stunning light displays. Organized by Quelli del ‘29, the performances will take place from 10:45 PM to 12:30 AM.

Oltrarno: Marching Bands on the Move

The Oltrarno district will come alive with the festive sounds of two marching bands. Magicaboola Brass Band will bring funky beats to Santa Maria Novella, including Via Palazzuolo and Via Maso Finiguerra, while Zastava Orkestar will fill the air with Balkan and gypsy rhythms, culminating in a midnight countdown at Piazza del Carmine. This lively event will run from 10:00 PM to 1:00 AM.

Piazza Santa Croce: Music and Dance Under the Stars

Piazza Santa Croce will host a captivating evening of music and dance, courtesy of the National Symphony Orchestra “RadioTV Moldova,” the Orchestra da Camera Fiorentina, and the Kinesis Dance Association. The program includes everything from symphonic masterpieces to rock and tango-inspired performances, making it a night to remember from 10:45 PM to 1:00 AM.
