FLORENCE, ITALY – A lorry hit a column of the Vasari Corridor linking the Uffizi Galleries and Palazzo Vecchio early Thursday December 27, 2018 causing considerable damage, Uffizi Director Eike Schmidt said.
«There is considerable damage, and perhaps it’s time to rethink vehicle access to the area,» he said.
The lorry was said to have unloaded its large cargo in via Por Santa Maria, then carried on up to Piazza del Pesce near the Ponte Vecchio where it performed a U-turn, bashing the pillar.
