FLORENCE, ITALY – Palazzo Vecchio and the Uffizi Gallery are connected again. On Wednesday, July 5, 2017, the passage on the elevated path over via della Ninna was reopened. For visitors there is now an integrated ticket of 27 euros for Uffizi and Palazzo Vecchio.
It is the famous Path of the Prince, desired by Cosimo I de’ Medici and designed by architect Giorgio Vasari in 1565 to allow Florentine Grand Dukes to move without danger from Palazzo Vecchio, the seat of the Government, to their residence in Palazzo Pitti.
The passage was opened by the mayor of Florence Dario Nardella, the director of the Uffizi Galleries Eike Schmidt and the Minister for Cultural Heritage Dario Franceschini. The two museums were divided since 1871, as Palazzo Vecchio of municipal competence, while the Uffizi are a state museum.
The new ticket will allow the public to visit the two historic buildings independently and move freely among the extraordinary works of art, with certain limits for security and non-crowding.
Reservations are required, admission is by the Camera Verde (Green room) of Palazzo Vecchio. No more than 25 people are allowed at the same time.
The unique ticket Palazzo Vecchio and Uffizi can be booked by contacting Firenze Musei, tel. +39 055 294883 (Monday to Friday from 8.30 to 18.30, Saturday from 8.30 to 12.30).
