FLORENCE, ITALY – Astrology, Numerology, Sacred Geometry, Alchemy, Tarot Cards, these all sound like books you may find in a New Age Store! Right? But could it be that the New Age is really the Old Age?
One look at the Medici Family’s history and you will find that all these things were merely a renaissamento or rebirth of Ancient Greek Philosophers, primarily Plato, along with ancient mysticism from traditions such the Kaballah from Jewish Mysticism, Zoroastrianism, Mithraism, the worship of Ra the Egyption Sun God and many more! This Rebirth of the Golden Age was originally fueled by Cosimo the Elder’s appetite for the esoteric and his funds went towards finding and translating countless rare books. These books had all but been destroyed or coveted by the Catholic Church, many ending up in the Vactican Library. Many of Plato’s Great Works were translated and the Platonic Academy was created in Florence, where great Artists, Writers and Philosophers such as Michangelo, Boticelli, Raffella, Piro della Mirandello, Polizano and many more held secret meetings at the Medici Villa in Careggi.
But the manuscript that was most revered and translated immediately upon its discovery was that by Hemes Trimegistis. An ancient text believed to be written detailing scared knowledge Hermes Thrice Great, had handed down through the ages. It was rich in Alchemy, Gnostics Doctrines and Hermetic Principals.
To this day you can find many of these principals scattered about in New Age shops and Psychic Fairs presented in a fragmented, disjointed context because we have lost the connective threads of thought which bound them all together.
Take Tarot Cards, for example. Here in Italy the oldest known Tarot Deck exists under glass in a museum in Milan. Originally thought to be a game, the belief was that those who knew the real meaning of the Tarot only pretended to be “playing” cards because divination of the Tarot was punishable by death but gambling by only a slight fee.
The real wisdom of the Tarot relates to Astrology, Numerology, Sacred Geometry, The Mystical Kaballah and more. These were once all understood and practiced as a whole in the Ancient cultures of Egypt, where Ra, the Sun God was worshiped. In Ancient Persia ,where Zorasthorism ruled, Ancient Greece and many more. These ancient cultures contained much more knowledge about the movements of our solar system, our galaxy, the rotation of the Earth and so forth. These Cultures held ancient knowledge that modern science is just now discovering.
Take Astrology for example, which in ancient times almost every culture held sacred. There was also this same story adherrent in almost every religion. A story about a son of God born on December 25 to a virgin and traveled around in the company of twelve others and died but was resurrected on the third day.
This has been interpreted as the son of God being the Sun and the death and birth the equinoxes. The twelve would be the twelve house of the zodiac. Even to this day the Catholic Church is steeped in signs of Sun worship, The halo around Chist’s head is a helios or Sun sigh and the cross is the crossing of the sun.
.
However during the Dark Ages, even to mention that the sun maybe the center of our solar system and not the Earth bought you a roasting in the fires of hell literally and figuritively.
Durring the Middle Ages all of this knowledge was lost. Man was told that he or she was a miserable sinner, that must suffer through life to hopefully be rewarded someday, in the after life. Not a concept wholely unique to Christianity. If anyone that dared to mention any scientific truthes they would most likely be burnt at the stake. The first person to say that the Sun, not the Earth was at the center of our solar sytem was in fact, burnt at the stake. During the dark ages over 50,000,000 human beings were tortured and killed by the Catholic Church.Even when Galileo had proof that the Sun was the center of the solar system he was forced to retract his statement or perish as his predicesters.
Marsilio Ficino a much overlooked but very influential figure in Renaissance history was the Tutor of Lorenzo the Magnificient. He ventured to declar that man was not a miserable sinner but a divine spark of God and could return to the divine state. He and Lorenzo helped to pull the world out from the shadow of the Dark ages. Ficino’s father was Cosimo the Elder’s attending Physician and soon Marsilio was adopted into the family and at a very early age given the task of translating the philosopher Plato’s works and the works of Hermes Trimegestris. This book contained the mystical secrets of Alchemy, the philosopher’s stone, and the Great Work.
Facino was in the fullest meaning of the word a Renaissance Man. He was well schooled in Music and created a form of Music called The Music of the Spheres, He was schooled in medicine, understood numberology, sacred geometry, and was the head of the Platonic Academy in Florence. He wrote many well read books and became a priest, but concidered himself a physican of the Soul and a Magus. He sought to join the mysteries of the occult with the Catholic religion. Which failed. But he did manage to implement many of Platonic philosophies
Alchemy, astrology, sacred geometry, Alchemy, the Hermetic Principals although practiced in secret helped to free up the world during the Renaissance to lay way for new growth and discovery in all areas of the Human. I recommend seeing the film exhibition Incredible Florence which quite effectively demonstrates all that the Florentines have given to the world.
Unfortunately “the powers that be” have constatnly sought to enslave the masses and have fed them half truthes, and misinformation while the elite hold dear this sacred knowldege. I can only think of the words which ring throughout the ages The Truth Will Set You Free. Perhaps we are in need of yet another rebirth, a New Renaissance to bring back to these great truths Or, perhaps it is time for something even greater than a rebirth of the old, perhaps it is time to be cleansed in the waters of the Age of Aquarious!
