From Florence to Florence, 70 years later

FLORENCE, ITALY – From Florence, Italy to Florence, Alabama. The story of a Shoals solider killed in action in World War II was reported by WBRC – Fox 6 News for the Veterans Day.

Mack Tays left for war in 1943, Fox 6 News reported. His wartime travels took him to a different Florence, in Italy, as part of the first American troops to fight for the liberation of Rome.

Tays gave the ultimate sacrifice for freedom. Last September Italian farmers located Tays’ dog tags, fountain pen, toothbrush and mirror. General James Dozier helped reunite the soldier’s belongings with his family.
