FLORENCE, ITALY – Its name is “Adopt a Work of Art”. Everybody can be the patron for an artwork of the Museo deli Innocenti, Florence, Italy. From 2004 the museum of IDI has been undergoing a radical renovation process. For many years a multidisciplinary team comprising art historians and experts in the history of architecture, the history of childhood and museum educators, has prepared the museological project for the MUDI.
The new museum will have to take on the Istitute’s old tradition of receiving and caring, which are still fundamental characteristics of its Identity. The MUDI will highlight the deep relation between works, architecture and documentary records which make the Istitute’s heritage so unique and together makes it possible to relate the istitution’s history and tell of the people who lived in the Hospital.
Adopt a Work of Art is one of its most recent initiatives to redesign the MUDI museum. The end is to raise money to restore 24 of its paintings by offering private individuals or firms the possibility of adopting one of these works. More info to the web site http://www.istitutodeglinnocenti.it/ .
