Ornellaia, charity auction in Hong Kong

The project of the artist Zhang Huan was inspired by Confucius, the famous philosopher who lived in China in the sixth century before Christ, in naming the Opera “Questioning Confucius”. With the presentation of vintage Ornellaia 2006, Tenuta dell’Ornellaia launched a special artistic project entitled “Vendemmia d’Artista”, to celebrate the unique character of each new vintage of Ornellaia. Every year, an internationally known artist will be commissioned to create a work of art that captures the essence of the wine, the individuality of the vintage and its specific personality. Ornellaia’s Vendemmia d’Artista project aims to recapture the tradition and value of artistic patronage in a modern-day key, trying it to the birth place of Ornellaia and the specific character of the individual harvest.

The single adjective that best describes the “character” of each new vintage of Ornellaia is selected by the technical team, following an analysis of the “history” of the growing year, beginning with the weather conditions of the entire season, though the harvest, then though the wine’s maturation in the cellar, and concluding with the tastings of the wine still in barriques. The artists commissioned for each vintage interpretation will select images from the trajectory of their own artistic expression that will respond to the themes dictated by Ornellaia’s character for that particular year.
