Not only the Uffizi, the Ponte Vecchio and the the Palazzo Pitti… the new Palace of Justice opened today in Florence, Italy. Built over a three hectares area, the new Palace of Justice in the Novoli district is a hugely ambitious and controversial project. It has changed the skyline of Florence.
In the next months the new Palace of Justice will bring together all the law courts which are scattered throughout the city and free up many old buildings of historical interest.
At a cost of almost 138 million euros Leonardo Ricci’s design is complex and on a massive scale, covering 800,000 square meters with a tower of 64 meters, second only in height to Brunelleschi’s famous dome for the Basilica di Santa Maria del Fiore and the Arnolfo Tower of the Palazzo Vecchio.
