Canaletto, Francesco Guardi, Simone Martini and Andrea della Robbia: these are some of the great artists that will be offered at Sotheby’s in New York January 26, 2012.
This is valuable paintings belonging to the collection of Italian paintings of Lady Forte, wife of Charles Forte, the founder of the luxury hotel.
Among the outstanding works for sale a rare Canaletto, titled “View of the Church of the Redeemer and St. James,” painted between 1747 and 1755, estimated between 5 and 7 million dollars. Another masterpiece is the “Reduced auction of masks in Venice” by Francesco Guardi. The estimate of the work is 1,8-2,5 million dollars.
The auction also concerns “La Vergine ,dell’Annunciazione” by Simone Martini. A similar representation is inside of the Uffizi in Florence. This masterpiesce is estimated 3-4 million dollars. Among the sculptures a pair of glazed earthenware, depicting two young men, made in Florence between 1470 and 1480 by Andrea della Robbia, estimated 400-600.000 dollars.
