The nonprofit organization Friends of Florence raised more than $350,000 Oct. 18 in the private dining rooms of Spiaggia in Chicago (Illinois), US. The report of the event was published some days ago on the local newspaper Chicago Sun-Times. The goal of the evening is to restore and reopen the historic Tribuna in the Galleria degli Uffizi in Florence, Italy.
More than 160 the guest at the dinner. A special tribute was paid to Contessa Simonetta Brandolini d’Adda, who co-founded Friends of Florence in 1998 and is its president. Guest of honor Marchese Piero Antinori joined the celebration.
To celebrate its 10th anniversary, Friends of Florence launched the restoration of the important Tribuna in the Uffizi Gallery, recognized as one of the first museum collections in the world and one of the Uffizi’s most admired rooms. Restoration work for this $1.1 million undertaking has been under way since fall 2009. The room contains a unique treasure of ancient sculptures, portraits and other prized artworks.
